Google Nexus 7 sales nearing one mllion units per ... - Know Your Cell

ASUS CFO David Chang on Wednesday revealed that sales of Google's Nexus 7 tablet are approaching one million units per month. If true, the number is extremely impressive in a world that is seemingly dominated by Apple's iPad.

The almost one million sold per month is great news for ASUS and Google, though hardly a surprise as the Nexus 7 only costs $199. That announcement comes just a few days after Google announced its all-new Nexus tablet -- the Google Nexus 10.

For those in the dark here, the Nexus 7, Google's 2012 7-inch flagship, made its debut earlier this summer at Google I/O. From the get-go, it was fairly obvious Google would have a major hit on its hands as the Nexus 7 was cheap and well-made.

Sales of the Nexus 7 also helped ASUS beat out Wall Street estimates for this quarter. Overall, ASUS tablet sales jumped from 800,000 in the second quarter to 2.3 million shipments in the third quarter alone. Sales are expected to jump even more in Q4.

While the Nexus 7 is certainly no iPad, the almost one million sold per month shows Android tablets might just be catching on. It will be interesting to find out more next quarter when Samsung reveals Nexus 10 sales.
